Velos for softies (or less hardies!)
Do you want to ride in a group, but are not quite ready for Chorlton Velo pace? Or do you ride with the Velos but fancy an occasional  lie-in or a ride that's a bit less "full-on"?

We go out most Sundays between 9.30 and 10; and usually do 40 to 50 miles on Cheshire lanes and into the peak district, taking in climbs like Brickworks, Cat & Fiddle and Long Hill - with a coffee stop along the way. In spring and summer we also do midweek evening rides of 25 to 40 miles, usually meeting and finishing (with a drink) at the Bird in Hand pub in Mobberley. We ride together in some sportives too.

Quite a few riders have started with us almost from scratch - but progressed quickly to a decent pace in the company of the group. We are mostly 40plus, but any age, either sex welcome. You'll need a road bike or road-oriented hybrid.

Welcome to Chorlton Velo

Now in its 4th year in existence, Chorlton Velo has grown from a very small group of like minded cyclist to an ever expanding team of cycling enthusiasts, who regularly take part in sportive not only in the uk but also across the world, challenges completed include the Fred Whitton, Spud Reilly memorial and of course la Marmmotte in France to name but a few.

There is als a racing side to the club which has members who take part in local MTB and road races like Manchester midweek madness and the Manchester critierium events to more regional events in road, track and MTB including wiggle 6hr MTB, north west cyclocross championships and northwest track championships to a great deal of success.

The club has a relaxed atmosphere to its Sunday morning club rides which take in the surrounding areas and include on occasions hills like the cat and fiddle, blaze hill, holme moss on some of its more adventurous rides, for most of the members this is plenty of riding, however there is a Wednesday night club group which is for the rider who wants to push their fitness and speed with the members of the club who race, be it existing club members who have got an eye on taking part in a few races next year or those who just want to beat their previous sportive times , all are welcome but don’t be fooled it will break you out of your comfort zone.

Sunday morning rides usually start from truth hairdressers on Beech Road in Chorlton @ 7.45am, and the faster Wednesday ride meets at the same place @ 6.40, if you wish to get involved contact Chris via email or pop into ken fosters cycle logic to get more information

truth hairdressers location

One of the Wednesday night rides starts at 1800 hrs ride outside 'Truth' hairdressers, Beech Road, Chorlton and picking up at Didsbury outside the Woodstock public house on Barlow Moor Rd at approx 1815hrs. Rides usually last for 3 hours returning at 2100hrs to Chorlton and cover from 35 - 45 miles usually in the foothills around Poynton and Bollington.
It's a 'chatty' pace on the ride out at about 15 - 17 mph however the ride back is much quicker as beer awaits back at the end of the ride either in Didsbury or Chorlton. In brief, a social but testing ride but don't let this put you off as the pace is always adjusted to suit newcomers.
